Cathrine Avery
Cathrine Avery is a lecturer in film and television at the University of Hertfordshire. Her research focuses on gender and agency, particularly in relation to the crime genre. Her previous work has examined the representation of a feminist embodiment within the crime novels of Sarah Dunant, Sue Grafton, Åsa Larsson and Jenny Siler, all of whom challenge the objectification of the female victim and unapologetically incorporate generic violence as an expression of female agency. She is currently working on an article that explores the representation of femininity within the audio-visual anomalies of Sebastian Schipper’s Victoria (2015).
