Chris Mitchell

Dr Chris Mitchell has been the Royal College of Art’s deputy director of academic development since 2019. He has a leading role in the development of new academic frameworks, programmes and pedagogies at the college. This includes leading a range of educational development programmes for staff, including a PG Cert in creative education and a teaching fellowship scheme for staff applying for Higher Education Academy (HEA) fellowships. He previously worked at the college as the head of academic development and learning and teaching coordinator. Before that, he was the manager of the economics subject centre of the HEA at the University of Bristol. His research focuses on the public role of UK higher education. He has an Ed.D. from the UCL Institute of Education, an MA in online and distance education from the Open University and a B.Sc. in politics and sociology from the University of Bristol. He is also a principal fellow of the HEA and a fellow of the Staff Educational Development Association.
