Christa Sommerer

Christa Sommerer is an internationally renowned media artist, researcher and pioneer of interactive art. Together with Laurent Mignonneau she worked in Japan as associate professor at the Institute of Advanced Media Arts and Sciences (IAMAS) in Gifu and as researcher and artistic director at the Advanced Telecommunications Research Lab (ATR) in Kyoto. Before she was Artists-in Residence at the MIT CAVS in Cambridge, United States, Artists-in-Residence at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), Beckmann Institute in Champaign Urbana, IL, United States and Artists-in-Residence at the NTTInterCommunication Center in Tokyo. In 2004 they set up the Department for Interface Cultures at the University of Art and Design in Linz, Austria where they are both professors.
