Christian Schmieder
Christian Schmieder studied Sociology and Linguistics at Freiburg University, specializing in qualitative methodology and the effects of qualitative data analysis software on the professional generation of knowledge. After having finished his degree (Magister Artium), he emigrated to the United States. At present he is a research consultant at Colgate University’s Upstate Institute, and he works as an independent lecturer and methodology/software coach in academic institutions in the United States and Germany. As a scholar, his present focuses lie on the impact of QDA software on the production of academic knowledge, on metaphors in reconstructive text analysis and on communication in massively multiplayer online role-playing games. He is the co-author of a forthcoming book on the methodology of metaphor analysis, written in collaboration with Dr. Jan Kruse (Freiburg) and Kay Biesel (Berlin).
