Christina Kolaiti

Dr Christina Kolaiti is a senior lecturer in photography at York St John University. She is a photographic artist and researcher whose practice has been based on interdisciplinary collaborations with healthcare institutions (such as the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and the MBBS Honours Medicine and Surgery of Newcastle University). Kolaiti’s research activities have positioned the narratological and reflective properties of fine art photography within a diverse range of curatorial, pedagogical and scientific contexts. Her work has been presented in the United Kingdom, Holland, Greece and Japan. Her research profile also includes exhibitions set within various hospital sites (e.g., the Northern Surgery Skills Institute at Hexham General Hospital and the Royal College of Physicians in London). She has received various research awards by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the Arts Council England and most notably, the Combined Royal Photographic Society and Royal Medical Colleges Medal in 2011.
