Christopher R. Mena
Christopher Mena earned his Ph.D. in music education from the University of Washington, Seattle. His dissertation research is focused on the historical impact of education policy on Mexican American access to music education. He has published widely in various journals and volumes including the Oxford Handbook of Music Composition Pedagogy (Oxford, 2023) and Routledge World Music Pedagogy series. He has also engaged in international work in music education, with his most recent project being a four-year summer residency to assist in developing a teaching artist programme in Myanmar. In addition to his scholarly work, he has worked as a consultant for various arts organizations and school districts and is also a frequent musical guest on a Seattle-based children’s show that is focused on increasing BIPOC representation.
