Christopher Vito

Dr Christopher S. Vito is an associate professor in sociology at Southwestern College, United States. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from UC Riverside, and studies hip hop culture in relation to race, class and gender. His book, The Values of Independent Hip-Hop in the Post-Golden Era: Hip-Hop’s Rebels, was published in 2019 by Springer/Palgrave Macmillan. The book uncovers the historical trajectory of US independent hip hop in the post-golden era, seeking to understand its complex relationship to mainstream hip hop culture and US culture more generally. He has also previously published in peer-reviewed journals such as the International Journal of Cultural Studies, NORMA: International Journal for Masculinity Studies and Korea Journal. In his free time, he enjoys going to concerts, collecting clothes and shoes, and getting a fresh haircut.
