Claudia Romero-Herrera

Claudia Romero-Herrera is a theatre author, director and teacher, graduated from UNAM’s College of Dramatic Literature and Theater and is the founder of Theaome Teatro. Romero-Herrera is the co-author and director of Beckett or in Godot We Trust, director of The Innocence of the Beasts, as well as co-author and director of the musical Mexicano Flores. In 2010, she was invited to the playwriting table of ‘New Voices of Mexican Literature’ Cycle, held at Palacio de Bellas Artes. She has benefited from different cultural programmes such as EEFITEATRO, FONCA, IMJUVE and CENART. She was the recipient of UNAM’s Criticón Prize for her theatre review on The Illusion and awarded the Best Stage Direction for her musical play Brecht’s Consolation or His Healthy Distancing in UNAM’S National Contest of Homemade Theatre. During the COVID confinement, she wrote ‘Life minus, or the infinite possibilities for reviving’, published by Cultura UNAM in The Need of a Reconstruction: Essays for Imagining a Feasible Future of Mexican Performing Arts. She currently presents, as co-author and codirector, Enter and Exit, Even If Through the Windows, organized around the texts from the Playwriting Workshop she gave at the Women’s Detention Centre in Santa Martha Acatitla. Apart from musical theatre, she is interested in the ecological ways for producing theatre.
