Collette “Coco” Murray

Collette “Coco” Murray is an award-winning dance artist-scholar, cultural arts programmer and arts consultant recognized for working collaboratively with culturally diverse communities in the Greater Toronto region, creating access to arts and culture, and promoting the importance of cultural arts. Murray is pursuing a Ph.D. in Dance Studies at York University. Her doctoral research focuses on dance education in the Canadian Afro-diasporic dance sector and anti-racist dance pedagogies. As Miss Coco Murray (the moniker under which she operates a mobile dance education business www.misscocomurray.com), she has published in dance media, in professional resources for teachers, and in academic journals. Murray is founder and Artistic Director of Coco Collective which offers culturally responsive projects connecting participants, organizations, and schools to African and Caribbean arts. Murray's performance experience includes Caribbean folklore and West African dance styles, along with curating and advocating for spaces that amplify Black arts and dance styles through arts board leadership, community engagement, and research presentations.
