Daniela Ricci

Daniela Ricci earned her Ph.D. at Lyon 3 University (Lyon, France) and Howard University (Washington DC, United States). She specializes in contemporary films from Africa and its diasporas and has special interests in cinemas and representation. She teaches films at the University of Paris Nanterre and Paris 8. In addition to collaborating with various Festivals, she has published several articles and co-edited essay collections. She is the author of the documentary, Imaginaires en exil: Cinq cinéastes d’Afrique se racontent (Creation in Exile: Five Filmmakers in Conversation) (Centre d’orientation éducative, 2013) and the monograph, Cinémas des diasporas noirs: esthétiques de la reconsruction (L’Harmattan, 2016), recently translated in English under the title, African Diasporic Cinema: Aesthetics of Reconstruction (Michigan University Press, 2020).
