David O. Dowling

David O. Dowling is a professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa. He is the author of nine books and numerous articles on digital media and journalism history. His book Immersive Longform Storytelling: Media, Technology, and Audience (Routledge, 2019) examines digital narratives from multimedia features to interactive documentaries and podcasting. His articles on emerging media and digital culture appear in Digital Journalism, Convergence, Journalism Practice, Journalism & Communication Monographs and elsewhere. Podcast journalism and the rise of audio reporting in the digital age are the focus of his award-winning research in the Journal of Radio & Audio Media, including articles on the podcasts S-Town and Ear Hustle, and on the rise of Black podcasting.
