David Plans
David Plans Casal is a musician and researcher. His research focuses on using new techniques in computational musicology as methods for composition. His current focus uses evolutionary computation techniques, in particular genetic co-evolution, as applied to the frequency domain using MPEG7, in order to create reflexive music systems. He usually drives these from a piano, although lately he has built his own chordophonic contraptions. He has given papers and performances at the International Computer Music Conference, the European Conference on Artificial Life, the Darwin Symposium and the Computer Arts Society in London. His teaching focuses on software and hardware practices for digital music and he is a Lecturer in the School of Arts and New Media, at the University of Hull.
