David Spieser-Landes
David Spieser-Landes is a Ph.D. candidate in French Literature with an interest in Politics at the University of Pittsburgh. His dissertation, ‘The politics of aesthetics: Nation, region and immigration in contemporary French culture’, analyses, in terms inspired by Jacques Rancière’s political philosophy, the modalities according to which ‘regional literature’ and ‘banlieue (ghetto) literature’ both take up the role of breaking the so-called harmony of the French Nation in the contemporary period. Related articles have appeared in Tiresias: Culture, Politics and Critical Theory (issue 5, 2012: 62–76) and in Contemporary French and Francophone Studies (special issue, ‘The idea of France’, March 2013: 173–81). Before pursuing his Ph.D., David Spieser-Landes earned an M.A. in American Civilization from the Université Lyon 2 and an M.A. in French Literature from the University of Pittsburgh in 2011; Institutions where he taught include Penn State University, Lycoming College, the University of Pittsburgh, and now the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
