David Torbett
David Torbett is professor of religion and history at Marietta College in Ohio, where he has taught for sixteen years. Previously he taught at Ashland University and Mount Union College (now University of Mount Union). He is editor of The Autobiography of Daniel Parker: Frontier Universalist (Ohio University Press, 2020) and Theology and Slavery: Charles Hodge and Horace Bushnell (Mercer University Press, 2006). Specializing in the relationship of Christian theology to slavery and abolitionism in the nineteenth-century United States, his other academic interests include world religions, alternative religions, biblical studies, ethics of violence and non-violence, church-state studies, European history, and pedagogical uses of debate, drama and music.
