Deborah Madden

Deborah Madden is a postdoctoral researcher at Radboud University, where she collaborates on the Heritages of Hunger project. Central to her academic work is the interface of sex, culture and political history in contemporary Spain, with current research focalizing hunger and memory politics in contemporary fiction and manifestations of shame in women’s prison memoirs. Her book, Matilde de la Torre: Sex, Socialism and Suffrage in Republican Spain, was published with Legenda (Oxford) in October 2022, and she has recently published in the Journal of Spanish Cultural Studies (2021), the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies (2021) and the International Journal of Iberian Studies (2022). Deborah is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society and Higher Education Academy, and a member of the International Journal of Iberian Studies editorial board.
