Deborah Seabrook
Deborah Seabrook, Ph.D., is a music therapy educator, clinician and scholar currently teaching in the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. Deborah’s FRQSC and SSHRC-funded doctoral research examined music improvisation to promote mental health, producing a grounded theory about the relationship among music therapy, community music and music performance practices. Deborah’s scholarship advances interdisciplinary social justice perspectives on music therapy. Deborah is a founding and current member of the Equity Advisory Council to the Canadian Association of Music Therapists. In her recent work, Deborah articulated an eco-music-therapy approach to address contemporary needs posed by the climate crisis. A music therapist for the past fifteen years, Deborah has had the privilege of working with people from a wide variety of lived experiences, including women and children survivors of trauma and abuse, children and adults with mental health issues, and adults in palliative care.
