Desiree A. Montenegro

Desiree Montenegro, MA, teaches intercultural and interpersonal communication, and communication theory at Palo Verde College and to at-risk populations in the California Correctional Educational System. She received her MA in communication studies, from California State University, Los Angeles, where she co-founded a human rights organization and collaborated with the university’s coordinator of general education to provide university-wide disability awareness training. Her publications, refereed conference papers, and guest lectures focus on gender and communication, social support for women at risk, disability awareness, and strategic communication to restore peace and security. Previously, she was a public affairs specialist at the US Department of Defense Public Affairs and 27th Special Operations Wing of Public Affairs and information and communication technologies specialist for US Marine Corps Installations West. Her work received national recognition as she was awarded the title Wing Staff Civilian and the award, Air Force Civilian Print Journalist of the Year.
