Doris Sung
Doris Sung is assistant professor of Asian art history at the University of Alabama and former assistant curator at the Peabody Essex Museum. Her research explores notions of gender and global cultural flows with a focus on women’s art production in the early modern, modern and contemporary eras in East Asia. She has published book chapters and articles on Chinese women artists active in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Her forthcoming book, titled Women of Chinese Modern Art: Gender and Reforming Traditions in National and Global Spheres, 1900s–1930s, examines the role women embroiderers and traditionalist painters played in the development of Chinese modern art and their contribution to the revaluation of Chinese cultural heritage on the international stage in the early twentieth century.
