Ed Whittaker

Ed Whittaker was born in Manchester UK in 1948. He is an artist and lecturer. He has been employed at Bath Spa University and the University of East London where he conducted the research for this article. In 2012 he completed a Ph.D. dissertation on the subject, Photography and Limits of Place. His research interests extend to the architectural systems of biopolitical culture as the critical interface of late Capitalism. Among his publications are the following: Nonsite to Celebration Park, Essays on Art and the Politics of Space (2007, Anthony Rowe); ‘Art in the Age of Exception: Mark Wallinger’s Sleeper in Berlin’ (2009, Cambridge Scholars Press); Painting with Architecture in Mind (2011, Wunderkammer Press); ‘Photography and the Subject of Architecture’ (2012, Ashgate) and ‘Architectural Photography and the Contingency of History’ (2016, University of Navarra).
