Edward D. Messerschmidt

Music educator and composer Edward ‘Ted’ Messerschmidt is currently the director of music and arts department chair at Oakwood Friends School and an instructor at SUNY Dutchess. Ted has also taught in public schools and at Marist College, where he served as the orchestra director and the associate director of bands. Ted’s primary research interest is music education in prisons, a topic which he explored in his doctoral dissertation and shared at international conferences. Ted has taught or participated in workshops in several prisons, recently participating in the Inside Outside Songwriting Collaboration Project, which paired incarcerated musicians with songwriters.
