Elba Díaz-Cerveró

Elba Díaz Cerveró holds a Ph.D. in journalism from San Pablo-CEU University of Madrid. Currently, her main line of research has to do with the coverage of crime, drug traffic and traffickers and their impact on the image of Mexico. In this regard, she has recently published the article ‘Journalistic coverage of organized crime in Mexico: Reporting on the facts, security protocols and recurrent subthemes’ and the book On the Other Side of the Tunnel. The Coverage of the Escape, the Recapture and Extradition of Joaquín ‘el Chapo’ Guzmán (Tirant Lo Blanch, 2018). She has also published the articles ‘Recapturing Joaquín “Chapo” Guzmán in the Mexican press: An analysis of the front page of El Universal, Reforma, Excelsior and La Jornada in 2016’ and ‘The fictionalization of Joaquin Guzman Loera’s escape in the Mexican press. A study of the treatment in the newspapers Reforma, El Universal, La Jornada and Excelsior’. She is a professor-researcher at Universidad Panamericana Campus Guadalajara, where she directs the project Coverage of Drug Trafficking in Mexico: The Perspective of Those Who Cover It. She is a member of the National System of Researchers (Level 1) of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico (CONACYT).
