Emma Louise Rixhon

Emma Louise Rixhon is currently undertaking a Ph.D. at London College of Fashion investigating how male models experience and perform masculinities at work. They completed an MA in fashion critical studies at Central Saint Martins in 2018, writing a dissertation on the potential of bootleg designer clothing to destabilize fashion hierarchies, dissecting evolving conceptions of authenticity. This stemmed from making their own bootleg clothing, exploring the relationship between bootleg fashion and migration around narratives of legitimacy. Hand-sewing, beading and dyeing with plants and vegetables over the last few years, Emma Louise has been exploring how slowness and mending can forge a more conscious relationship with our clothing. A selection of these pieces was included in The Real Thing exhibition at The Fashion Space Gallery.
