Emrakeb Woldearegay
Emrakeb Woldearegay is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Oregon’s School of Journalism and Communication. Her dissertation examines health campaigns to reduce maternal deaths in Ethiopia. She authored Popularity of American Action Movies among Ethiopian Marginal Youth (LAMBERT Academic Publishing [LAP], 2010), exploring how marginalized Ethiopian youth navigate masculinity through Hollywood films. Emrakeb also published a chapter on ‘Gender equity and maternal health in Sub-Saharan Africa’. She holds master’s degrees in journalism and media studies from South Africa and in politics and international relations from India. Her research intersects political communication, global media and gender studies and health communication, focusing on communication for development, inclusion and diversity. She has presented at major conferences like the International Communication Association (ICA) and IAMCR.
