Ernest Carranza Castelo

Ernest Carranza Castelo is an instructor at Catalonia Open University (UOC), where he teaches courses dealing with Catalan identity, literature and cultural studies. He obtained his Ph.D. in Spanish in 2019 at The Ohio State University with a dissertation analysing the representation of Catalonia as a nation in fiction and factual texts. He has published in leading journals in the field of Iberian studies, such as The Bulletin of Contemporary Hispanic Studies and Catalan Review. His current research interests include the textual articulation of national identity, humour in literature and the role of writers as intellectuals in the Catalan and Spanish-speaking cultural spheres. Dr Carranza Castelo has extensive experience teaching Catalan and Spanish language and culture and, before joining UOC, he worked as a visiting assistant professor of Spanish at John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. He has also served as an adjunct professor for International University of Catalonia (UIC).
