Esther Etkin
Esther Etkin is part of The Project for the Study of Alternative Education in SA (PRAESA), attached to the Faculties of Humanities at UCT, where she manages the Nal’ibali national reading-for-enjoyment campaign. Her areas of interest and previous research include the mediated representation of HIV/AIDS and suffering through mass media (LSE), with a current focus on the use of digital media as a tool for behaviour change in resource-constrained settings and as a tool for children’s literacy development. She has previously sat on the advisory board for the Amawinna teen magazine in SA and conducted formative research for the DG Murray Trust on a mobile job and opportunity-matching site for youth in SA.
