Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan
Dr Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan is a senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology, Goldsmiths, University of London. His published writings, films and exhibitions engage with urban life, digital media circulations, youthful becoming, racialized difference and gendered performance. His forthcoming book, The Globally Familiar: Digital Hip Hop, Masculinity, and Urban Space (Duke University Press), documents the ways in which working class young men productively take up hip hop’s five elements as a way to reflexively self-fashion themselves as gendered and racialized subjects in India’s rapidly changing capital city.
