Faredah Mohsen al-Murahhem

Faredah Mohsen Al-Murahhem is an associate professor at Umm al-Qura University, the College of Design and Art, before this she was a vice dean of Academic Development and Entrepreneurship at the university. Al-Murahhem has one year of experience as the vice dean at the College of Engineering at Prince Mugrin University in al-Madinah and prior to this was an academic consultant. In addition, she has spent three years as a vice director of the Scholarship & Inter–University Relations. An associate professor with experience of teaching in higher education, Al-Murahhem holds a Ph.D. in interior architecture – specifically architecture and heritage – and a diploma in research methodology from the University of Brighton in the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the scholar has a master’s in interior design and a diploma in education from Umm al-Qura University, as well as a bachelor’s degree in interior architecture from King Faisal University (Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal) in Saudi Arabia. Her rich and varied background and expertise comes from experiencing different cultures and moving from region to region within Saudi Arabia. Al-Murahhem’s master’s thesis has been published and awarded a prize for the celebration of 100 years of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The book covers a unique documentation of the ‘rawāshīn’ (wooden projected windows) and the traditional houses surrounding the Holy Masjid of Makkah. She contributes to conferences and publications. She is a referee in academic journals, a committee member, a juror and an external examiner nationally and internationally. Al-Murahhem’s research domain focuses on: traditional architecture and heritage through teaching, the importance of drawing and sketching in the field of design, and the culture and creativity of design studios. She is a mentor and works as a consultant of heritage in some projects in Saudi.
