Florian Stegen
Florian Stegen works as a teaching assistant and a Ph.D. student at the Department of Communication Studies at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). He graduated in 2022 with a thesis on the importance of opening credits in different Hollywood franchises. The chosen film series (Psycho, The Pink Panther, Spider-Man and James Bond) span a period of over sixty years and are each associated with one or more key graphic designers of title sequences. This thesis research sparked his interest in paratext, audio-visual media and audience reception. He is currently working on a Ph.D. proposal and started the doctoral programme within ECHO, a research group devoted to the study of meaning across media, culture and politics, and their intersections.
