Francesco Chiaravalloti

Francesco Chiaravalloti is tenured assistant professor of cultural policy and director of the Bachelor Programme in Cultural Studies (BA Cultuurwetenschappen) at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). He is a member of the Scientific Committee of Social Theory, Politics and the Arts, the oldest and still one of the most influential academic gatherings of researchers and practitioners in the field of arts management and cultural policy; the Scientific Committee of the Embassy of Italy in the Netherlands, with the aim of promoting scientific diplomacy initiatives in Europe and abroad; the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) roundtable Cultural Sciences & Linguistics of the Dutch Research Council (NWO); and the Cultural Policy Working Group at the Boekmanstichting in Amsterdam. Before joining the UvA in 2012, where he teaches arts management and audience and visitors research, he worked at the Universities of Groningen and Utrecht. He was visiting professor at the University of Bayreuth, the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the University of Innsbruck. Since 2017 he has also been visiting professor at the Università Cattolica in Milan. Before starting his academic career in 2007, Francesco was a management consultant at Deloitte in Berlin, a senior researcher at the Fraunhofer IPK in Berlin, director of A&A-Arts and Artists Management and Research in Berlin and an associate at Philippe Rixhon Ltd, London. His free time was devoted to his favourite activities as a film journalist and a pianist. Francesco holds a Ph.D. in Business and Economics from the University of Groningen, an M.Sc. in Business Engineering from the University of Tor Vergata in Rome and a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Conservatory Giovanni Paisiello in Taranto.
