Francine Giese

Francine Giese is a Swiss National Science Foundation professor in the Department of Art History at the University of Zurich. Her Ph.D. thesis, dealing with the Islamic ribbed vault, was published in 2007 (Gebr. Mann Verlag), and her second book on building and restoration practices in the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba was issued in 2016 (Peter Lang). Her research interests are art and architecture of the Islamic World, artistic and cultural heritage of al-Andalus, cross-cultural exchange (Iberian Peninsula/Ottoman Empire), and neo-Islamic architecture in the Islamic World and the West. Her current book projects are Mudejarismo and Moorish Revival in Europe and The Orient in Switzerland.
