GAD KAYNAR
Gad Kaynar is Chair of the Theatre Arts Department, Tel Aviv University, Professor of Israeli, German and Scandinavian theatre and drama, dramaturgy and performance analysis. He is the author of numerous articles on topics in these fields. His most recent book is a historiographic study on The Cameri Theatre of Tel-Aviv (2008). His books The Reality Convention in Hebrew Theatre and Recent German Dramaturgy are due to appear in 2011. Kaynar is recipient of an 'Israel Science Foundation' grant (2004) for research on Applied Dramaturgy, and for a study revising the socio-political role of mainstream theatre (2010, together with Shulamith Lev-Aladgem). A former dramaturg (1982-2005) of major Israeli repertory theatres, Kaynar is also a drama translator, in particular of Ibsen, for which he was appointed 'Knight First Class of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit' by King Harald V of Norway.
