Germaine Koh
Germaine Koh is an artist-organizer based on the west coast of Turtle Island, whose work adapts familiar objects, everyday actions, and common spaces to look at communal experiences and connections between people, technology, and natural systems. A 2023 winner of a Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts, she has served as the City of Vancouver’s first Engineering Artist in Residence in 2018-20, as the 2021 Koerner Artist in Residence at the University of British Columbia, and as a 2023-24 Shadbolt Fellow in the Humanities at Simon Fraser University. Beginning Fall 2024 she is Assistant Professor in Visual Art at UBC. Koh’s ongoing projects include Home Made Home, an initiative to advocate for alternative forms of building and housing; League, a participatory project using play as a form of creative practice. and the Hemlock Micro Studio artist residency focused on land-based and sustainability practices.
