Gianmarco Mancosu

Gianmarco Mancosu is a Ph.D. candidate in Italian studies at the University of Warwick. His main research interests include the representation of colonialism in Italy between fascism and the Republic, and in related legacies in contemporary visual products. His current doctoral research focuses on how newsreels, early TV shows and documentaries about colonialism/decolonization have contributed in re-defining the images of Italian national identity after the Second World War. He is currently working on a monograph about the activity of the Istituto Luce’s Reparto Foto-Cinematografico Africa Orientale, which produced and spread cinematographic representations about the fascist empire (1935–41), topics that he explored in his first Ph.D. dissertation (Cagliari, 2015). He collaborates with the Archivio Storico dell’Istituto Luce (Rome) and with the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Addis Ababa.
