Giorgio Salani

Giorgio Salani is a maker and craft researcher based in Tokyo, Japan. He is currently completing a Ph.D. titled ‘Salience, qualities and narratives in the making of contemporary British hand-thrown tableware’ at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. The study employs a mix of practice-based and ethnographic methods to critically analyse handmade production in three well-established workshops. An original theoretical framework based on the concepts of salience and technological style is employed to build first steps towards a cultural analysis of contemporary British pottery practices.
