Helen Kindred

Helen Kindred is a dance artist–scholar, co-artistic director of Dancing Strong Movement Lab with Adesola Akinleye, and a senior dance faculty member at Middlesex University London. Helen’s work is underpinned by the practice and philosophy of Bartenieff Fundamentals, exploring this as a rich and nurturing life-art-practice. Helen has presented work, toured and taught internationally over the past 25 years. Recent publications include ‘In-the-between-ness: Decolonising and re-inhabiting our dancing’, co-authored with Dr Akinleye in Narratives in Black British Dance: Embodied Perspectives (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), guest editorial, Journal of Dance & Somatic Practices, ‘Wright-ing the somatic: Narrating the bodily’ (summer 2019) and the article ‘Improvisation and change’ in Animated (summer 2020). ‘Moving Meditations’ is part of the Triip (Turning Research Ideas into Practice) programme at DancingStrong Movement Lab.
