Helen Poynor

Independent movement artist Helen Poynor runs the Walk of Life Training and Workshop Programme in Non-Stylised and Environmental Movement on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site in Devon/Dorset, United Kingdom. She lives in a coastal village in Devon. As a movement teacher, director and performer, she specializes in movement in natural environments, site-specific and autobiographical performance and collaborations with installation, film, text and the visual arts including In Memoriam an environmental dance film created with artist Annie Pfingst (2016). She is deeply indebted to Anna Halprin and her team at the San Francisco Dancers’ Workshop/Tamalpa and Suprapto Suryodarmo from Java, with whom she trained. She mentors established and emerging dancers and performers and is a Somatic Movement Therapist (ISMETA). Several of her articles have featured in JDSP as well as publishing elsewhere, including ‘Walk of Life training in non-stylised and environmental movement’ in Theatre, Dance and Performance Training (Routledge, 2021).
