Helen Wolfenden

Helen Wolfenden is a lecturer in radio at Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Helen has spent much of her professional life as a radio broadcaster (presenter, producer, manager and researcher) with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). Helen is interested in production processes for all spoken word audio including radio, podcasting, audio books and emerging forms. Specifically, Helen has considered questions about how radio presenters construct an on-air identity, how producers shape the voice of a programme and presenters’ conceptions of their audience. More broadly, Helen is interested in the intersect of professional and academic knowledge and their usefulness to each other. Helen publishes both traditional and non-traditional research outputs and recently produced a podcast that experimented with translating an academic journal article about publishing practice knowledge into narrative non-fiction audio. It was published in the Times Higher Education podcast.
