Hoi F. Cheu

Hoi Cheu teaches at Laurentian University’s English Department, where he received a Teaching Excellence Award. He is also faculty investigator at the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research. After he received his Ph.D. in English Literature and Literary Theory (Western University), he continued his training in bibliotherapy. He was president of the Association for Bibliotherapy and Applied Literature in 1998 and 2005. His book, Cinematic Howling: Women’s Films, Women’s Film Theories (UBC Press 2007), was nominated for the annual book prize of the Canadian Women’s Studies Association. Other than writing, he also makes documentary films for knowledge translation. His on-going team research projects include a multi-year tracking study of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (funded by Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care) and an evaluation study of an art-based mindfulness group programme for vulnerable youth (funded by Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada).
