Howayda Al-Harithy

Howayda Al-Harithy is a professor of architecture and urban design in the Department of Architecture and Design at the American University of Beirut. She has also been a visiting professor at Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Georgetown University. She obtained a BA from the Oregon School of Design, an MSc in architecture from MIT, and a Ph.D. in the history of art and architecture from Harvard University. Al-Harithy’s research focuses on urban heritage and contemporary interventions in historic cities. Her current research conceptualizes urban recovery in relation to processes of historical editing, urban trauma, and protracted displacement.
