Hugo Martins
Hugo Martins is a Portuguese filmmaker based in Lisbon. His first feature film A Vida do Avesso (Upside Down, 2017) premiered at the Busan Film Festival and at the São Paulo Film Festival. He studied filmmaking at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in Lisbon and at the New York Film Academy in New York. He completed a Ph.D. in performing and moving image arts at the University of Lisbon (in collaboration with the Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa), with a thesis on Japanese director Yasujiro Ozu. He is the author of the book Yasujiro Ozu, Ciclos de Vida by Edições IPL (2 December 2021, ISBN 978-989-54510-6-7).
