Ian Middleton
Ian Middleton is an assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá. He received his Ph.D. in musicology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in 2018, and his master’s degrees in musicology and philosophy from the University of Leeds in his home country, England. His research focuses on music and trust in Colombia, based on extensive ethnographic fieldwork with projects linking music and peacebuilding. In 2021, he co-led a collaborative intervention and research project in Siloé, Cali, supported by Agrigento: ‘Our Stories in the Neighborhood’s Music’. He has also directed the Uniandes Caribbean Ensemble. His composition ‘La culebra bruja’ was awarded at the 20th National Tambora Festival in San Martín de Loba and was recorded by Martina Camargo on her 2016 album Paisaje en tambora.
