Ian Straughn

Ian Straughn is Assistant Professor of Teaching in the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Irvine. He received his Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Chicago, specializing in the archaeology of the Islamic world. His research explores the relationship between materiality and textuality in the Islamic tradition and the development of heritage practices in the Muslim world. He has published previously in IJIA and is currently co-editing a volume that will explore the material and social practices of the Islamic textual tradition in West Africa.
