Ilona Biernacka-Ligieza

Ilona Biernacka-Ligieza is professor of humanities. She works at the Canterbury Christ Church University (School of Media, Art and Design) and University of Marie Curie Sklodowska in Lublin (Faculty of Political Science and Journalism). She was a visiting professor at the School of Media and Journalism, University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, USA (2017–18); the Department of Political Sciences, Communication and International Relations, University of Macerata, Italy (2018); Centre for Research on Communities & Cultures, Canterbury Christ Church University, UK (2017); Research Fellow at the: Institute of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo (2008–09; 2010–11). She was awarded more than ten international research grants (e.g. EOG Grants; two Horizon 2020 Grants). She published ten monographs and more than 100 scientific papers and book chapters. She has been doing comparative research on community media and journalism. Her research interests include: local media; mass communication; digital media; cross-cultural communication; journalism studies; local democracy; globalization; glocalization; media and politics; media and identity; minorities in local public sphere.
