Isabelle Held

Isabelle Held is an interdisciplinary design historian focusing on fashion, the body, materiality and technology in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. She is currently a research associate at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, and is completing her forthcoming book on plastics, design and the body in the postwar United States with Duke University Press. The UK Arts and Humanities Research Council funded Held’s Ph.D. in history of design from the Victoria and Albert Museum and Royal College of Art in London. She has been awarded fellowships from institutions including the Smithsonian and Hagley Museum and Library in Wilmington, Delaware. Held has curated exhibitions for the Science History Institute in Philadelphia and Google Arts & Culture as well as lectured at design institutions including London College of Fashion.
