Janine Chow

Janine Chow received her Ph.D. in theatre and drama from Northwestern University in December 2023. Her work examines cultural constructions of childhood in musical theatre, from precursors in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s so-called ‘chopsticks musicals’, to the first child protagonist in Oliver!, to children in contemporary musicals. Outside academe, Janine is a sound designer, dramaturg, conflict mediator and online discussion moderator. She is currently serving on the Accessibility, Belonging, and Inclusion Committee for the International Society for the Study of Musicals.
