Jasmine Hornabrook
Jasmine Hornabrook completed her Ph.D. thesis, titled ‘Becoming one again: Music and transnationalism in London’s Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora’ in 2016. For this thesis, she conducted multi-sited ethnographic fieldwork in the United Kingdom, South India and Sri Lanka. She took Carnatic vocal lessons in Chennai, South India, and over Skype. Jasmine also learns Tamil Thevaram songs at the London Sivan Temple. Her latest post-doctoral project involved documenting Tamil Thevaram songs in London and organizing a musical collaboration between local Carnatic musicians and a composer and music students at Goldsmiths, University of London.
