Jason D. DeHart

Jason D. DeHart is an assistant professor of reading education at Appalachian State University. DeHart is passionate about adolescent literacy and middle grades education and served as a middle grades English/language arts teacher for eight years before earning his Ph.D. from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. DeHart’s research interests include multimodal literacy, including film and graphic novels and literacy instruction with adolescents. His work has recently appeared in Teachers College Record, The Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, The National Journal of Middle Grades Reform and Literacy Learning: The Middle Years. DeHart enjoys using comics in the classroom and is passionate about engaging readers with meaningful texts and sharing about new titles in the medium.
