Jason Nunzio Dorio

Jason Nunzio Dorio, Ph.D., is an educational lecturer at the School of Education and Information Studies, University of California, Los Angeles. He teaches community engagement, global citizenship education and qualitative education research courses. His research focuses on critical/anti-oppressive theories/pedagogies and post/de-colonial paradigms focusing on a range of themes in the fields of citizenship education, community engagement/service learning and internationalization of higher education. Geographical interests are in the United States, and North Africa, West Asia, and Southern Europe. Publications include: ‘Lessons from Los Angeles: Self-study on teaching university global citizenship education to challenge authoritarian education, neoliberal globalization and nationalist populism’ (Journal of Global Citizenship & Equity Education, 2018) and the co-edited book The Struggle for Citizenship Education in Egypt: (Re)Imagining Subjects and Citizens (Routledge, 2019). He holds a BA in history, a California Single Subject, Social Science and Secondary Education Teaching Credential and an MA in education (social and multicultural foundations of education), all from California State University, Long Beach. He received a Ph.D. in education specializing in social sciences and comparative education from the UCLA Graduate School of Education and Information Studies.
