Javier Pérez-Osorio
Javier Pérez-Osorio (he/him) is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Film and Screen, funded by the Cambridge Trust and MINCIENCIAS (Colombia). His research explores new ways to bridge film and queer studies in Latin American scholarship. In his doctoral project, he draws on decolonial studies, ideas on the epistemologies of the South, and particularly recent revisions of these reflections from a queer perspective developed by Latin American scholars. Emphasizing the entanglements of political and economic spheres with cultural structures (specifically with sexuality), he aims to ‘translate’ decolonial thinking into the realm of cinema. More broadly, Javier is interested in the intersection between Latin American visual cultures and queer studies.
