Jenifer CHAO
Dr Jenifer Chao is a reader and associate professor in the Leicester Media School at De Montfort University, United Kingdom. Her research has explored Chinese contemporary art and other creative expressions within the dynamics of Chinese nationalism and international relations, assessing their functions at the confluence of nation branding, cultural diplomacy and the creative economy. She has published on aesthetics, Chinese and American nationalism, and identity politics in various academic journals and is the author of Cultural Resistance, 9/11 and the War on Terror: Sensible Interventions (Routledge, 2018). She is also the principal investigator of an AHRC-funded research project entitled ‘Art diplomacy and nation branding: The visual politics of reinventing China’ (2020–23).
